2014-2

Hello Hello :)

Lately I've been seeing a lot of postings on Facebook about grammar and punctuation. Common sense stuff that we all know, regardless if follow the rules or not.

I will admit, I am one of the people who don't follow the rules. When it comes to their, there, or they're I always use There. Sometimes because I'm lazy, sometimes because I don't pay attention and sometimes because I just don't care. :)

But I will start making an effort to correct my writing grammar. Especially after seeing this post...

I do take full blame for my poor writing grammar. But I will also admit to being uber lazy and using dictation to write some of my blogs and not going back to correct the there, their or they're.  To be honest even when I write my blog posts, I rarely go back and spell check or correct this or that. What I write is what comes to mind and sometimes If i were to go back and correct this or that some of the more "risky" posts may get deleted all together.

So just like me all my blogs are uncensored :)
Enjoy!

HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY TO THE BRA

Saying that the bra turns 100 years old this week is a little confusing. History has shown that all the way back to the 14th century women were wearing "corsets" and bra like clothing. But the bra that we have all come to know and hate turns 100 this week.

I'm not going to go into the history of the bra, let's face it most of us hate our bras, so let's see where the bra is going instead of where it's been. Hopefully bras will become more comfortable in the future.

A few fun facts about bras...

- The average woman owns 9 bras.
- Of thouse 9 bras she only wears 6 on a regular basis.
- $16 Billion is spent on bras worldwide a year.
-36 C is the average bust size which increased from a 34B over the past 15 years.
-According to studies, British women have the largest breasts. 50% wear at least a D cup.
-In the 1920's a Husband and Wife team were the first to give the bra it's now standard "cup" size.
-Until the 1920's bras were sized as a "one size fits all".
-The Average boob weighs 1.1lbs.
-Frederick's of Hollywood invented the first padded bra in 1947.
-In 1948 Frederick's came along with the first push-up bra.
-Frederick's of Hollywood also can be thanked for the first front hook bra and the thong.
-Famiously in 1968 women turned to burning their bras, saying that they were "instruments of feamle torture". Fun fact, male police officers wouldn't contiune to allow the females to burn their bras so they had to settle for throwing them in trash cans.
-In the 70's the first sports bra was invented out of two jock straps.

Now that we know a little of where the bra came from let's look at where the bra is going. Microsoft, Ravijour and the University of Rochester have all come up with new bras.

First up is Microsoft's Mood Meausering smart bra.

Researchers say this new prototype of the smart bra is embedded with with sensors that monitor a woman's heart activity to track her emotional moods and help combat overeating.
The sensors can send a signal to your smartphone which will flash a warning message to help you step away from the fridge and make better diet decisions.

Next is a Japanese lingerie company called Ravijour.

This smart bra is a neo-futuristic  chastity belt for your boobs. This bra has a clasp with a microchip built inside that will detect, by a built in heart monitor if what you are feeling is "true love". Sending a single to your smart phone keeping you safe from "sluttery". The clasp can only be unlocked by your dad (GROSS) or your one true love. The bra also comes with a free smartphone app.

And last is a bra designed by a group at the University of Rochester. It seems they are taking a page out of Microsoft`s handbook and are also designing a bra to help women from emotional eating. I have no proof, but I`m going to go out on a limb and say this ``group`` is men.

Onto a serious note, A study in the European Journal of Cancer published facts that state premoenposausal women who do not wear bras are half as likely to get breast cancer then those who regularly wear a bra.

"Women wearing a bra 24 hours a day had a 3 in 4 chance of developing breast cancer.
Women wearing their bras 12 hours a day, but not to bed, had a 1 in 7 chance of developing breast cancer.
Women wearing bras less than 12 hours a day had a 1 in 152 chance of developing breast cancer.
Those who rarely or never wore a bra virtually never developed breast cancer."

So let's take a lesson from our mothers and aunts in the 70's and throw out those bras.

WHAT A HORRIBLE WORLD

 **********WARNING DISTURBING IMAGES***********

A few weeks ago my younger cousin showed me a flyer. It was so thoughtful of her to think of me and remembered to tell me about this flyer...

Yep, It's a flyer trying to make Halloween night, "National Kill A Pit Bull Day". In the flyer it speaks of how pit bulls have a high threshold for pain, and use items like bats, poison knifes and bricks to kill the dogs. The flyer also mentions if you can't find a pit bull then kill any big dog you find.

This is a post from a guy named "Terry Jordan". Who knows if Terry Jordan is a real person, and if it was him who actually posted this. But regardless of the social media name and picture, there is a real person behind this. Someone out there wrote these words. He sat down and took the time to type this post about killing dogs on Halloween.

Newspapers and tv broadcasts have covered this story, and have marked this story a Hoax. But regardless of what the media has deemed a "hoax". Someone out in this world still posted those disgusting words and had to realize this world is full of stupid people and those simple words he wrote could have ended countless dogs lives.

As a dog owner, those four red letters stamped across a paper doesn't erase the horrid words beneath.

Call it bad timing, call it ironic whatever you want. But this year at your local Sears and Wal Mart you could pick up this Halloween decoration for only $125.39

Skinned from nose to tail, the prop was described on WalMart's website as a “foam filled latex prop of a skinned dog with a large tire track squished through its mid torso. Chain attached for dragging purposes," according to The Consumerist. "You have seen bloody road kill, this is bloody road kill.”

I love Halloween and I'm all for making it fun and gory. But in my personal option this crosses the line. Not only is it Gross to look at and in very bad taste but the dog also looks like a pit bull. Maybe I'm a little sensitive right now about the pit bull issue because of the "National kill a pit bull day" but either way this Halloween "prop" is horrible.

Walmart, Sears and Amazon have all pulled the "dead dog Halloween prop" from their shelves but Sears is the company to offer an apologise to the public.

I know my little blog isn't going to change the world and I know even if I were to boycott Walmart for the rest of my life and my children's life and grandchildren's life, it wouldn't even make a noticeable ripple to a huge company like Walmart. But It makes me feel better sharing all this info with you, whoever you may be.

Hello My readers, well my family :).

First I'm terribly sorry I haven't been blogging even though I have promised over and over again to blog at least once a month. I give you my sincerest apologizes. Lately my life has been a little hectic and stressful and because of that my migraines have been at their worst. Most days the light from my computer screen is enough to make cry. I can promise you that I will TRY to blog more often. But this isn't a pity party for me, so we move with the apologies.

Second, I need to tell my family and friends how truly sorry I am that I have missed so many events this past year. We all know I used to miss the occasional event in the past, but this year I think I missed ALL of them. Weddings, funerals, births, anniversary's, birthdays including my own, the dragon boat races, Easter, Christmas, Halloweens, my moms 60th Birthday, my nephews birthdays, bachelorette party's, high school reunion with the girls, stag and does, grand openings, graduations, baby showers, wedding showers, family get together, Sunday dinners, black Friday shopping, vacations, trips, retirement party, my dad playing Santa at the shop I was going to be an elf, House warming, drag queen night, the last day in Nonno's house before it was sold.

I know I'm forgetting a few more and for that I am also sorry. If it wasn't for these migraines you all know I would have been there. And I'm so sorry that I missed out on celebrating these life events with you. The only event I missed that wasn't 100% because of my health was Kasha's baby shower. On the Friday that I was going to leave for Windsor I broke a tooth and ended up with a nasty infection and decided to leave on the Saturday night instead. When I was traveling to Windsor on the Saturday I was delayed by a tornado, so I went back home that night and it was a good thing I did. T|he tornado had taken shingles off the roof of the house and water was pouring in from the bathroom fan. Even so, I was planning on leaving early Sunday morning to make it in time. But My stupid head and teeth made it impossible. Kasha I am very sorry that I didn't make it to the baby shower.

And to everyone else I am so sorry I missed all these events. I hope you all know this is a sincere apologize from the bottom of my heart.

Love always,
Bugsy.

I'M BACK... AGAIN!

Hey everyone, so sorry again that it's been so long since Ive blogged. I promise to try and stay on top of my blog entries.

So what have I been up to over the past few months? Well let's go back to December. In case you don't know, I'm a huge Christmas freak!!!!!! In the past I have left my tree up all year and changed the decorations to fit the next upcoming holiday. Four leaf clovers for St.Patties day, pastel colored eggs for Easter, harts and red bulbs for valentines day, so on and so on.

Each year I always look for a set of Christmas dishes that I like, but have yet to find a set that really thrills me. The other thing is a shower curtain set, I finally found a really cute reindeer shower curtain, bath mat, towels, and sop dispenser this year at JYSK. But they were sold out the first week they hit the shelves. The other thing I'm always on the hunt for is a Christmas bedding set. All I ever find are twin or queen size sets. Since I have a king size bed that doesn't help me.

So I decided to get creative. Last Christmas Dan bought me a sewing machine. To be honest I was quite intimidated by it. It took me a long time to finally start using it, after watching every Youtube video on how to sew I finally gave it a go.

I went downtown here in Hamilton to Ottawa St. If you don't know Hamilton Ottawa St is know as the textile capital here.

Both sides of the streets are full of fabric shops competing with each other, so the prices are pretty good. Ottawa St is one of my favorite places in Hamilton. There's so many fabric shops you can get lost in a sea of fabric. In between all the different sewing shops are some very cute antique stores. I can't help myself, I always have to pop in to see what's new that week when I'm down there.

Hamilton seems to take great pride in their textile street. Every where you look there's different touches of sewing accessories up and down the street.

I found this really cute black material with little reindeer on it. The reindeer have big red noses, and silver sparkly antlers. Too cute!!! So I bought a bunch of this fabric and headed home to my sewing machine. After a few hours with the sewing machine and the seam ripper, this is the outcome...

It's not perfect, but it works. And it looks so cute. It fits in with the black and white theme I have going in the bedroom and the red is just enough for a pop of color. The sparkly antlers really make it look awesome. I made two pillow cases to go with the duvet cover which came out ok as well. If I had to change anything, I would have spent the money on a long zipper instead of adding ribbons to close the duvet cover.

Look out Martha! I have my seam ripper and I'm commin' for ya!

Next week: How to get red wine out of a white carpet. It's a damn good thing.

It's A Dogie Halloween

I'm not sure if it was a sign from above but as I sat on the tv room floor surrounded by sequence, fabric and jewels I was watching an episode of modern family. It just so happened to be this episode that I was watching for the first time. You really need to watch this video clip to understand what it is I'm talking about. And it's Modern Family one of my favorite tv shows. So funny!!!!!

Modern Family Cam's Master Project

Pirate Costume

Yep, that's right, it's a dog costume. My master project was a dog costume.

World's best dog costume

I came across this pic of "two" dogs carrying a treasure chest.  I loved it!!!! I thought it was so unique and funny I just had to try and make one for my dog Gina. Luckily Gina is pretty good about being dressed up and lets me do pretty much whatever I want to her... poor dog. Once I decided to make this costume that was labeled as "Worlds best dog costume" I thought I would put a spin on it and make it my own. I had to try and improve "Worlds best dog costume". So I made the treasure chest light up and made the "second" pirate look like Gina.

Dog Pirate

Since my sister didn't want help with making my nephews costumes because apparently Costco kids costumes are the best ... Whatever!!! I decided that I would make my dog a costume. My oldest nephew Max is really into pirates right now and since my plan was to go to London and trick or treat with the kids I thought that going with a pirate theme was a pretty safe bet. I was wrong, he went as a dinosaur. How cute would it have been to see Max as a pirate too taking Gina trick or treating with him. Max keeps asking his parents for a puppy for Christmas, so he has to learn to walk a dog sooner or later. And If you know Gina you know she is a gentle giant. She is the sweetest puppy ever I can't express what a great dog she is, Max wouldn't really need to "walk" her she would walk just by his side. Ahh it would have been so cute.

Boy's pirate bedroom

This is Max's Pirate bedroom... It's so cute I'm not sure where she got the bedding and stickers from but if you need to know email me and I'll ask her for the info. It's so cute, even better in real life. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Back to the point, Gina was getting a costume and I was going to enter her in a few dogie costume contests and hopefully win some cash and prizes. Due to the rainy week some of the contests were canceled and  I was in bed with a migraine the weekend before Halloween so I couldn't take her to the other contests. Maybe next year. But here's some more pics of her costume...
